Behind
the scenes of our romantic hands-on conservation work to protect sea turtles
and their marine habitats are an array of unromantic programmes and functional
requirements needed to keep our project running. Without computers, a
reliable vehicle, mobile phones etc.. we can't effectively continue our
valuable work to protect the local marine environment. This is the side
of conservation that is not so attractive to funders and sponsors, but
is absolutely vital to our work.
For a grassroots project
like ours donations from the public are our most valued source of funding.
Some members of the public that have visited the project and seen our
work have asked us how they can help, and in the past have helped raise
funds or donated much needed pieces of equipment. So, in an urgent drive
to raise funds to keep the project running successfully we have compiled
a ‘wish list’ of our needs.
As a grassroots project
working directly in localities, donors are assured that their money goes
straight to tackling the root of problems. Every penny helps, so any amount
you can donate towards our wish list (below) will be greatly appreciated.
Those of you kind enough to donate to our wish list can specify the item
you would like to contribute towards and we will list all sponsors on
our website. Those sponsors contributing over £100, or sponsoring
an item in its entirety will have their name placed on a plaque in our
marine centre.
Donations can be made
through the website (see below) or cheques can be sent to our UK contact
address: Richard Zanre, 'Lyndale', Beechcroft, Chislehurst, Kent, BR7
5DB, UK payable to 'Watamu Turtle Watch'.
